Depositing a Check for Another

If a relative needed me to deposit a check into my account, we would both have to endorse it, correct? The accounts are in different states. I have deposit slips.

Yes, the check would have to be endorsed first by the payee and then by you. It's generally not a good idea to deposit someone else's check in your account. If there's a problem with the check and you've sent your relative money for it, you'll be left holding the bag.

If your relative first endorses the check, you should be able to deposit it to your account. Be aware, however, that your bank may have a policy against knowingly accepting such a check, often called a third-party check, for deposit.
