Although it's possible that the bank the check is drawn on will miss the date when processing the check, you can't be sure that will happen.
A lot can happen in sixteen months. The account may have been closed. If the bank sees the date on the check, it may refuse to pay it, and you'll have the check charged back to your account, and you could incur returned deposited check fees and go into overdraft. The safer route is to ask the issuer of the check for a replacement.
