About six months ago I went to work for a girl that was in the military, taking care of her animals and house. She wrote some checks for me, and I opened my first checking account and cashed them. My bank thought it wasn't her signature, so we went through this big deal of my bank saying I signed the checks not her. She told them she signed them and she paid the bad check fees, but my account was cancelled. The balance went negative $850, so even though she paid the fees, I was still negative and they wouldnt send the checks back through. Its been six months and I haven't heard anything from them. I need to open another bank account. The bank lady from my bank said I had to pay them in a week or it would go to their lawyer, but its been six months, so what's the deal?
If the bank still holds those checks, you have not yet been paid for the services you rendered. Try to get the woman who gave you the checks to supply you with a bank check to replace them. If you are able to obtain that bank check, you should demand that your bank return the original checks.
Your bank may be waking up to the fact that those checks are now over six months old, and could be rejected for that fact alone. That may be the reason that it is only now pressing for payment.
