We just received a corporate check in the mail from Alcoa. It was issued June 8, 2008, but mailed on February 2nd. Can we deposit it?
If your bank notices the date on the check, it may refuse to accept it for deposit. If it doesn't notice the date, you still need to be concerned that Alcoa's bank might refuse to pay it because it's over six months old. You can try it if you are willing to leave the funds untouched for a couple of weeks to ensure the check isn't coming back, because you'll owe your bank if you use the money. An alternative is to contact the people at Alcoa that sent the check, explain the problem and ask if it will exchange the check for a new one.
