Is it legal to have my Social Security checkdeposited into my daughter's bank account to pay my part of our mortgage?
The Social Security Administration requires that direct deposit payments of your benefits be made to an account in your name. Many banks routinely verify or spot-check the names included with direct deposit payments against the names on the destination account in their records. When they identify a mismatch, some of those banks return the payments to the Treasury Department, which is the prescribed procedure for them to follow for name discrepancies. That can cause delays in delivery of benefits. Route the payments to an account in your name and give your daughter a check each month.
