I have a payroll check almost four months old that I recently found. It has a statement on it that reads "Void after 60 days." Can I cash the check?
You might be able to cash it if the clerk or teller doesn't see the void statement, but you'd be liable for the amount of the check if it's bounced by the paying bank. It's possible that your employer has an agreement with the paying bank that calls for the bank to refuse payment on items more than 60 days old. It's also possible that the legend on the check is only there to encourage employees to promptly deposit or cash their checks.
Don't try to cash this check. Instead, ask your employer to replace it. Then promptly cash the replacement check.
