Check Made in Error to My Ex and Me

I am being issued a settlement check. Because my Ex is still legally on the title of my car, they added his name to the check. I am not allowed to be around this person due to domestic violence. Is there any way I can still cash my check without him if I bring in my court documents?

Assuming that the payee names are connected using the word "and" or an ampersand ("&"), your court documents won't mean a thing to the bank because they can't change the fact that the check is jointly payable and requires two endorsements. However, if the names are joined with "or," a bank may be able help you.

If you need your ex-husbands endorsement, you might be able have him stop at the bank and endorse the check before you get there, if the bank is amenable to assisting you. That would permit the bank to check his identification and endorsement.
