Can my father cash a check sent to him where I worked at his college for the summer? He is threatening to do so, saying that I owe him money. I am seventeen.
If the check is payable to you, your father should not be able to cash it. That doesn't necessarily mean he can't do so, if he is of a mind to do it.
If you don't receive the check or the proceeds, you can enter a claim with the remitting party, and sign an affidavit of forged endorsement. If pursued, the claim will wend its way back to your father, who will have to make it good. A better solution: resolve the matter privately, between yourselves.
