I have an escrow check that was issued in 1995. The escrow company no longer exists. The bank it is drawn on was taken over by Cal Fed, which was taken over by Citi. Who can I contact to get this resolved?
Unless those funds were surrendered to the state as abandoned, there is not much hope for you on a check that's 14 years old. In most such cases, the issuer of the check can be contacted, but when the issuer no longer exists, that is no longer an option.
Check out the Internet website, which is sponsored by an association of the state officials who act as custodians of abandoned property. There's at least a small chance you'll find your funds there.
