Barclay's Bank returned as unpaid, a US Travelers check issued to me earlier, which I deposited into my account, as it was unused on my travel. The reason given for non-payment was 'return to maker'. Who is the maker to whom I should refer it? I had assumed it was Barclay's Bank, as they issued it, and have their name printed on the check? They say this is incorrect.
One might take issue with the use of "Return to Maker" as a return reason simply because it says "we can't or won't give you a reason we are not paying this check. Take it up with the person who gave it to you." In your case, the check issuer is referring to you, the purchaser, as the maker. In other words, you should ask yourself why the traveler's check was returned to you. Contact the outlet from which you purchased the traveler's check and ask it to get information from the issuing company.
