Multi-party Check Cashed by One: What Now?

I had a check issued to four people from my insurance company. It was to X Comp, XX Comp, myself, and my husband, with "and" between all names. The first company endorsed the check and cashed it, and now I can't get the money to fix my home. What can I do? I need help. I can't get anywhere with the banks involved.

Contact your insurance company, because you have not received payment and didn't endorse the check. The insurance company will ask you to complete paperwork that it can use to collect the money back from the payee that endorsed the check (or the payee's bank).

You are entitled to a replacement check from the insurance company. This time, you should personally take the check from payee to payee so that you don't lose control of it.
