A check I deposited bounced, and the legal copy of the check and the returned item notice I usually get was lost in the mail. My bank faxed me a copy of the legal copy which I tried to submit to the collection company, but they won't accept it, saying they need the original legal copy, while the bank says that the fax is a legal copy. Is the fax a legal copy, and if not, if I request an original legal copy from my bank are they able to re-print/re-issue one?
A copy of a legal copy does not have the same legal standing as the "original" legal copy. You should ask your bank for a substitute check. If the bank cannot provide the check copy, you may have to take legal action, using a statement from the bank that the check you deposited bounced.
