Can a check be negotiated with a spelling mistake in the words?
If the spelling error does not affect the intent of the issuer of the check, it should be negotiable. For example, if the amount in words on the check used "ninty" instead of "ninety," the issuer's intent is still clear. If the payee name is misspelled, the normal practice is to have the payee endorse the check as drawn and then endorse it again with the proper spelling.
