Someone wrote a check out to me using a marker-type pen. The bank refuses to cash it, saying that checks written out in "marker" are not acceptable by the Federal Reserve. Is this true?
We aren't aware of any such rule. There are certain types of inks that don't translate well to images, and that might be a concern, as most of the checks in the US are now forwarded in electronic image form for payment.
