A tenant who owed me money and promised it when his income tax refund came, was arrested and is currently in jail. His aunt received the check, took it to him, and he endorsed it for me. When I tried to deposit it, the bank said they couldn't take double-endorsed government checks. What can I do? I don't know when he gets out and it just doesn't seem right.
Right or not, the bank doesn't have to accept the double-endorsed check, regardless of the fact that it is a Treasury check. Your tenant still owes you the money.
