I work security as a contractor for a DOD site. I just went on medical leave and got a check from the company to which we contract. It's made out to me with my home address and also has the security company name under mine. It has a post office box number, but it's legal in every way except that I don't know the reason for it. Can I deposit it without any legal worries?
Although you might be able to legally deposit the check, if it was made out to you in error, you'll be liable to repay the issuer at some point. Do yourself a favor and make a phone call to ask why you got it. If the answer makes sense, and you actually should have received the payment, you'll be able to deposit it without worry.
