We are a married couple with two separate checking accounts in two separate banks. We received a refund check from the IRS. One spouse endorsed the check over to the other. Will the bank deposit this check into the other spouse's checking account?
Perhaps the bank will allow it, and perhaps not. Banks are getting increasingly particular about accepting jointly payable checks, particularly if they are not able to verify the endorsement signature of the non-customer. We can only suggest that you ask the bank, and that, in the future, you and your spouse use direct deposit for your tax refunds. The IRS will even let you split the refund between your accounts, if you'd like!
