Four Payees, but only Two Endorse?

A check is made out to four individuals. Practically speaking, will a bank cash that check with only two signatures?

If the check's payees are listed thus: Party A, Party B, Party C and Party D, or Party A and Party B and Party C and Party D, all four payees' endorsements would be required for negotiation of the check. If instead of "and," the word "or" appears in the list of payees, any one of the the payees should be able to endorse it.

Other combinations are possible and a bank can require more than the law requires when it comes to this question. You should take the check to the bank to ask specifically what it will require for the check to be negotiated.
