Cashing Beneficiary Check

My aunt just closed out her life insurance account for me. They made the check payable to her, but she gave it to me already. It's for about 250k. What is the best thing for me to do with it so that I can use the funds? Can I cash it somewhere or deposit it into my bank account?

You haven't said whether your aunt endorsed the check. For a check of that size, you'll definitely run into problems trying to get it cashed, so depositing it would be the way to handle it. Before you do that, however, make sure your bank will accept your aunt's endorsement. You may have to have her go to the bank with you and provide proof of her identity as she endorses the check.
