Our son received a legal class action settlement check, which requires his endorsement. The reverse of check states "Recipient must confirm identification when check is presented for payment or deposit". Must be cashed or deposited by February 20, 2011. He is in a federal camp serving a sentence well beyond that date. What is proper procedure beyond our getting his endorsement without his ability to personally go to bank? Would a notarized signature of his presented to bank suffice? I believe that is available in the federal camp.

Ask your son's bank whether it will accept the check for deposit with a notarized endorsement or some other form of verification of his identity.
