Received Bad Check: Bank Freezes My Account?

I deposited a check from a renter of my beach house. The check was written on a closed account. I've made no withdrawals and only deposits since that bad check was deposited. The bad check had no money drawn on it. I did not try to cash it and only deposited it. Meanwhile, the bank has frozen my account and I have no access to the money that is rightfully mine from employer direct deposit, etc. I can't write checks for my mortgages, utilities, etc. My credit is good and now the bank is forcing my credit to go bad because someone tried to scam me.

Talk with your bank. If you made a deposit and the check comes back, those funds, and possibly a fee for the deposit reversal, will be removed from your account. There is no cause based on this single event for your bank to freeze the rest of the funds in your account. Unless they suspect fraud on the other deposits you've made, this shouldn't happen. Speak with your bank, and consider moving your account if you are not pleased with their response.
