Getting Around a Hold to get Cash

I have a check for $24,666 that my bank put on hold for five days. I have tried going to another bank to get a cashier's check, but my bank says that they will not cash it. Is there any way that I can get around this hold to get cash?

If there is a branch of the bank that the check is drawn on close by, you might try taking the check there. Be prepared, however, for that bank to be reluctant to cash the check unless you are able to provide identification documents acceptable to them.

If you don't need all of the check in cash, you may be able to convince the bank it's drawn on to give you the cash you need, and a cashier's check for the balance. Then you can deposit the cashier's check and wait for it to clear.
