I deposited two checks totaling $9,000 into my personal checking account that turned out to be bad. I paid back the money, but my bank still put me in the chexsystem and pressed fraud charges. How can I rectify this situation?
Presuming you were an innocent fraud victim, it is also presumed that you did not know that they were fraudulent. As far as the fraud charges are concerned, consult an attorney, perhaps in your county's legal aid division. If the bank actually pursues those charges, you will need to defend yourself by explaining your actions and documenting your repayment of the money owed the bank. You do not want a fraud conviction on your record, even if you only have to pay court fees, since you've already made the bank whole.
Assuming that the fraud charge is dropped or dismissed, you should then contact the bank and ask that it update its ChexSystems report. If that doesn't work, contact ChexSystems yourself. The bank can provide you with the contact information.
