Bouncing Checks: How am I Affected?

How does depositing a check that has ended up bouncing affect me?

If you deposit a check that is dishonored by the bank on which it's drawn, your bank will charge that check back to your account. Your bank may also impose a returned deposited check fee. Check your deposit account agreement and/or the bank's fee schedule to find out more on that question.

Additionally, if your bank has given you access to the deposited funds and you've drawn down your balance before the charge for the returned check, your account may go overdrawn. That could result in overdraft fees and cause checks you have written to be presented against insufficient funds. Those checks could either be returned by your bank for insufficient funds or be paid, either event resulting in more fees.
