I have a small side business and usually get paid in checks made out to the business. Can I deposit the checks made out to my business into my personal checking account?
If you operate a sole proprietorship, your bank may be willing to accommodate you if you endorse the checks over to yourself first, but many banks simply do not permit customers to do what you would like to do with these checks. You run the business, and you're in a position to tell people how to make out their checks. If you are a sole proprietor, instruct customers to make their checks payable to you in your individual name.
