I received a refund check for a purchase that I made from a US company. I live out of the US. However, the issuing bank does not exist in my town, and I only have a bank account from my country. How should I go about cashing this check?
You may have to request that your bank accept the check for collection. In such cases, the bank gives you a receipt for the check, has you endorse it, and then uses its correspondent banking relationships with other banks to get it collected. This is largely a manual process and involves fees, often at both ends of the transaction. Before proceeding, ask your bank for an estimate of the fees of which it is aware. You may decide the effort isn't worth the expense.
