Cashing a Check with Minimal Fees

Someone just purchased a car from me and paid me with a check from a bank that is not mine. Where can I cash the check without being charged a large fee?

You can deposit the check to your account without a fee. Otherwise, you could be charged a fee any other place. Depending on where you go, there may or may not be a fee and of there is a fee, it could be differing amounts depending on where you go. Other than your own bank, the bank the check is drawn on is the next best place to go.

If you don't have a bank account, this check may be used to open one. Having a bank account is a good thing as it starts building a relationship. That relationship may prove beneficial later when you want to cash other checks, or borrow money.
