Cashing a Check without Bank Account

I received a corporate education reimbursement check, but do not have a bank account. There aren't any branches of the bank that issued the check in my area and a check-cashing place can't cash it because the issuer did not provide the payment department contact information. How can I cash this check?

The obvious choice would be to open a bank account. This is especially important if you'll receive more checks. A bank account is a good thing to have. Your other option is to travel to a bank or check cashing company that will assist you without an account.
