How do I cash a cashier’s check that was endorsed to me?
Here is a similar question that is answered here.
The problem with cashing the check is that the bank you go to has to verify that the recipient actually endorsed the check to you, or assume risk. If the recipient later says they didn't sign that check over to you, the bank where it was cashed may have to pay that recipient the money. That means they eat the loss because they didn't verify the endorsement.
Banks often have little tolerance for this risk and will instead refuse to cash the check. If the original recipient can help you cash it, you should have no problem. Otherwise, it may be based on your relationship with that bank. If you have good accounts there (where your balances stay in the black and equal or exceed this check amount) and have done business with them for awhile they may help you out without a problem. Your relationship with your bank is a valuable thing.
