I received two checks last year from a person who purchased something from me. This person told me to hold them because the checks were from an account that he just opened. I still haven't cashed them. Are they still good? They total over $1,000.
You can try to deposit the checks, but you should be aware that the bank they are drawn on may refuse to pay them because they are more than six months old. The bank may also decide to pay them in spite of their age, assuming there isn't a stop payment order on them (and assuming the account is still open with enough money to pay them).
YOu should be concerned about the fact that the issuer of these checks asked you to hold off on cashing them. That's never a good sign, even if the request comes with a promise that there will be "money in the account on payday."
