Can a Check be Disputed Once it's Cleared?

I deposited a check into my account and it cleared. Can the person who wrote the check dispute it and have the money withdrawn from my account?

If there's nothing wrong with the way the check was negotiated (that is, the check wasn't lost or stolen and an endorsement forged, for example), the payment of the check can't be undone by the issuer of the check after the end of the business day following the date it posted to the issuer's account. Once that check is paid, the issuer can try to collect from you by some other means, but cannot undo the payment of the check. Published on BankingQuestions.com 10/18/07
