Bank's Oversight...or Mine?

I sold a truck and was paid with a pre-approved loan check for $4,500. I deposited this into my bank account and then wrote my own checks. When it reached the purchaser's bank they rejected it, because the buyer forgot to sign the back of the check. When the bank cancelled the check all of my outstanding checks bounced and my bank charged me $216 in fees. Am I required to pay these fees given that my bank should not have accepted an unsigned check?

Your bank isn't responsible for requirements imposed by the issuer of the check. You were equally at fault for accepting the check without the required signature. Perhaps if you are able to get your money from the purchaser of your truck who was the source of this aggravation, you might convince him or her to share some of those fees.
