My parents take my checks, forge my signature, and cash them. I don't have enough money to hire a lawyer. What can I do to resolve this situation?
What your parents appear to be doing may be illegal, assuming they do not have the authority under a Power of Attorney or state law to act on your behalf in this matter. One option is to contact those who issued you the checks and explain that you did not receive the benefit of the funds and that you did not endorse the checks. These could be reissued to you. The other part of this equation is that the checks that were paid based on your parents signature would be reversed. Your parents would be asked to repay those funds to the bank where they were cashed. If what they did was criminal, charges could also be pressed.
Talk with your parents and decide with them what is fair, and why they're doing this. If you are not a minor and do not wish for them to act for you, a Post Office Box may be the answer to receive future checks away from your parents' control.
