In 2005, I allowed my ex to deposit his check into my savings account. We both signed and showed ID, and the check cleared and he got his money. This past month he claimed that he never received his check and that he never signed it. The bank took $2,480 from my account without warning, and told me that it was part of the risk I took when I endorsed the check. What can I do about this situation?
By processing the check through your account, you assumed this risk. You probably didn't realize that or the extended time you would have this exposure.
Ask your ex for the money back. He is the one collecting twice. Your deposit was reversed to "un-do" the payment of that check. It ended at your account as far as the financial system is concerned. You must seek remuneration form him to get your money.
