I have a check that is made payable to me and/or my wife. Do both of us need to endorse it or is one signature fine?
If "and/or" appears between the names of multiple payees on a check, only one payee's endorsement is required for negotiation under the Uniform Commercial Code. However, before either of you endorses the check, contact your bank and ask them how they want the check endorsed. Even when the law says that one endorsement is sufficient, your bank can have a policy requiring that all payees endorse it.
