I am getting a divorce and my spouse removed her name from our joint account. The bank is telling me that I can no longer direct deposit a check that was made out to her and me. The check is from a lease agreement on real estate and I was unaware that she removed her name from the account. How do I go about depositing this joint check?
You have two options for handling that check:
(1) Convince your wife to endorse the check so that you can deposit it (check with the bank to make sure they'll accept the check); or
(2) Return the check to the lessees, and ask that it be re-issued in just your name.
