Issues with Cashing Large Insurance Check

Are there any issues with cashing an insurance check that is for over $50,000?

Yes. There may be a very practical issue of whether the bank office will have sufficient cash on hand to cash such a large check. There is also the security concern that would follow from carrying such a large amount of cash.

If you deposit the check and allow sufficient time for it to clear, you'll be able to withdraw cash from your account as you need it and not have to be concerned about exposing such a large sum in cash at one time. If you do cash the check, the bank will be required to file a Currency Transaction Report on the transaction.
