Disagreement on Memo Line Stipulations

I received a check that says "final payment" on the memo line. What should I do with it if I disagree with the statement? Can I still deposit it, or do I need to get the person to write another check?

It is not certain that the memo line entry would affect your rights at all. However, there is one thing you can do to make certain it won't. You can refuse to accept the check with the memo line entry. Give it back; tell the individual that you won't accept a check with that caption, and include a statement of what you believe to be owed to you.
