Depositing Deceased's Check with no Estate

I understand that you can deposit a deceased depositor's check into your account as long as a properly appointed personal representative of the decedent's estate endorses it, but what happens if there is no estate? Is it necessary to have an estate regardless of the amount of the check?


The alternative is to ask the issuer of the check to re-issue it directly to you. That could require documenting your right to the funds.
