Depositing Check without Signature

I received a check, which was not signed, for consulting work that I did in a different state. Can I deposit it, or do I have to wait for them to issue and mail me another check?

Your check needs to be signed to be valid and avoid problems down the road. While you might get it in the payment stream by depositing the check into your account, depending on the amount this could be more expensive if you tried to deposit/cash it, unsigned. If your bank accepted it and it was returned by the other bank, suddenly the deposit you thought you had would be reversed. Plus, your bank could charge you a fee for the reversal.

Your best bet is to have the company wire the money to you and they eat the expense. Since this was their error, they can overnight a signed check to you or they can send a replacement check in the mail that may take several days to reach you.
