My husband recently found an uncashed cashier's check from 1979. If the bank that the check is drawn on has changed, where is the money now, and how can we obtain it?
Each state has its own laws regarding unclaimed or abandoned property, and uncashed cashier's checks are subject to those laws. Look at the unclaimed accounts lists maintained by the state in which the bank was/is headquartered.
A good place to start (and find the links to each state's unclaimed property lists, plus a convenient search tool), is the website of the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators.
