I have a very old check that I had issued for a trip to Europe that the European bank never agreed to cash. The check is from a bank that has merged multiple times since it was issued. How can I cash this old check?
If you know the name of the surviving bank, you can take the check there to try to get your funds back. If you need help identifying the surviving bank, the FDIC has a web page you can use to track it down.
Even if you can identify the surviving bank, the funds for the check may have been surrendered to the state under abandoned property laws. The bank may be able to tell you that, or you can try using the abandoned property look-up features here.
