I recently found a check that is ten months old and payable to me. Can I still cash it?
You can, but it could cost you, depending on how you do it. In most cases a check is "stale" after six months. The bank that will pay that check may have the option to pay it after six months, or to return it as stale.
If you deposited this in your bank account, and it gets returned, your bank may charge you a fee to reverse the deposit. If possible, ask whomever issued you the check to re-issue it, or take it to the bank yourself for payment.
