I accidentally deposited a check that is drawn on a closed account. It was from my grandmother who recently died, and I think that everything was turned over to my dad. What can I do? Is there any way to pull the check before it clears?
The payment system is both fast and closed. The check will reach your grandmother's bank and be returned as "account closed." Your bank will receive that check and reverse the deposit in your account. Your bank may well charge you a fee for the work involved in that reversal. There just isn't much you can do at this point.
The biggest issue is that you not spend the money. You know that the check is not good. If you have withdrawn any part of that, you need to have funds in your account for your bank to effect the deposit reversal. If there will not be enough in your account, call your bank now and explain your situation. They will help you make arrangements to cover the reversal.
