I have two stale-dated checks made out to my deceased father. The maker refuses to reissue them. Is there any recourse?
A lot depends on what the checks were for. If they were gifts to your late father, we don't think there isn't a lot you can do.
However, if your father was owed the money represented by those checks (for labor or services, retirement pay, etc.), your father's estate (through its executor or administrator) may be able to collect. If the amounts are large enough to warrant legal action to collect, and the money was owed your father, you should hand the matter over to the estate representative, whose responsibility it will be to try to collect the money.
