I tried to cash my paycheck yesterday, but the bank said that the check was not authorized. What does that mean?
That statement could mean a lot of different things. Look at the check to see if it was signed. What's the date on the check? If it was dated ahead as of the date you took it to the bank, the bank would have been correct to refuse to cash it.
There's also the possibility that your employer or its payroll company sends your bank a list of issued checks on payday, and your check was missing from the list. Finally, there's the possibility that the bank teller said that he or she was not authorized to cash the check because it's not drawn on that bank. If that's the case, you might try taking it to the bank it's drawn on (if it's nearby). If none of that information provides the answer to you question, the two places you can go for a better answer are your employer and the bank.
