We have to do business with a store that is giving us post dated checks for their orders and a substantial check is going to the bank to be deposited today. Is there any way that the bank can verify the funds on the check before we deposit it?
Some banks will accept and respond to calls requesting check verification, others won't. Your best bet is to call the bank the checks are drawn on, and ask whether a given check is good at the time of your call.
You can't depend on the response to guarantee that a check will be paid. A lot can happen between the time you call and the time the check reaches the paying bank. What's good on Monday may not be good on Thursday.
