Funds Deposited to the Wrong Account

I made an error when I deposited my rent check to my landlord's account. I had the last four digits wrong and it went into someone else's account. The bank is telling me that the account it went into no longer has the funds. How can I get the money back or is it just a loss?

If your check was payable to the correct name, your bank erred in accepting it for deposit to the wrong account, even though you supplied the account number causing the error. If your landlord signs an affidavit attesting that he never received the check or any credit from it, you can file a claim with your bank. You should get a refund, which you can use to pay the correct person.
