Understanding Overdraft Fees

What is the most you can charge for a returned check if it makes your account a little over a hundred dollars in overdraft?

Untitled

This is not a regulated fee. Banks charge fees based on their costs and this can vary from bank to bank. The fee charged for a returned check is disclosed in advance in a fee schedule or in the deposit agreement. Don't confuse this fee with a similar fee that a merchant may charge a consumer. If the consumer's check is returned to the merchant, they may impose a returned check fee on the consumer. This fee is regulated by state laws in most cases. Your bank can also put themselves in the "retailers shoes" and charge a fee if a check comes back to the bank which was payable to them.
