I recently reordered checks without knowing what the last check number in my book was. It turns out that I ordered check numbers which I have already used. Is this a big deal? Will I have to reorder new checks or should I be able to use them?

Call your bank, but it shouldn't be an accounting issue. The problem is you'll need to identify your checks based both on the number and the date, otherwise, a merchant could say you didn't pay your bill. You research it and say you did, you wrote them check #996. You ask your bank for a copy of #996 and it is to someone completely different.
